Body Fat & Health

Body Fat & Healthy Weight

Subcutaneous Fat & Visceral Fat

Essential fat is necessary for our bodies to function normally and is found in the brain, spinal cord, bone marrow, and muscles. It makes up approximately 3% of a male's total body weight and about 12% of a female's, due to women's role in childbearing. Dropping below these levels puts you and your health at risk.

Nonessential fat, on the other hand, acts as insulation, padding, and an energy source though does not directly risk your health if low. Nonessential fat can be subcutaneous fat (just below the skin, like in the thighs) and visceral fat (surrounding the organs of the abdomen).

when we talk of losing weight, we are talking about cutting down our nonessential fat including fat below the skin like thighs and the fat surrounding the organs of the abdomen, through diet, exercise, and supplements that keep us in a fat-burning state.

Are you fit or do you need weight loss?

BMI- Body Mass Index

BMI is a measurement of body fat based on height and weight that applies to both men and women between the ages of 18 and 65 years.

WHR-Waist to Hip Ratio

Your waist to hip ratio is another key tool that can help you assess your current shape and determine your overall health risk. People with more weight around their waist are at greater risk of lifestyle related diseases such as heart disease and diabetes than those with weight around their hips.
